As for Remy and I, my expectations began to change after that night. Whatever it was I thought we were, we weren’t. What I thought I needed, I didn’t. At least not from her. We settled into a routine and things became comfortable – but in a different, and more distant, way. I involved myself in every case I could and, occasionally, Remy would show a spark towards me. But those were just the good days. I knew that. I moved forward with her, understanding that some relationships are doomed from the start; fire and gasoline will never mix.
An excerpt from ‘The Night of the Secret Cipher’, the second installment in the Remy Moreau series. Coming Soon.
